Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
The above photo is something that I made. Last week, at college, a sorority had a table set up in the cafeteria where they were encouraging people to make hand-turkeys; the plan was for the sorority to use them to decorate a local nursing home. Since they were giving delicious cookies to the participants (and since, of course, I am an ardent Doer of Good Things), I promptly set to making one of my own.
I regularly tell people that I'm horrible at visual art, but to be honest, that's kind of a mis-statement; the truth is just that I can't draw. I'm good to go when I have rulers, contrasting colors, and some sort of pattern that I can come up with. But really, music is my main love and I'm more versatile with it, so I just tell people that I'm rotten at visual art so that they'll not expect me to make any for them (since it usually involves drawing anyway). While I was making the above turkey, most of the sorority members commented extensively on how "cute" it was. One asked me if there was a reason that I used pink and green - I replied that, of the colors provided, they contrasted best; another asked me if I was an art major. I guess that I kind of made an impression... it was a pretty cool experience.
Today was pretty awesome; my good friend Reese was down to visit his grandparents in Ann Arbor (he's one of the Gaylord clan), so we decided to catch up this morning and get brunch.
We didn't count on almost every single restaurant, ever, being closed.
I mean, even McDonald's closed at 11 AM. Yes, it was really that bad. We spent a good hour driving around in search of sustenance. My BlackBerry's GPS mis-lead us to the opposite of Bob Evans (Telenav strikes again!), and when we finally found it, it was closed too. After a lot of searching, we stumbled across a little pancake house / diner that was open. The food was actually really good - for my side (I got a Mexican omelet), the waitress asked me if I wanted toast or pancakes. Seriously? Toast or pancakes? I mean, that's not even a choice... that's like saying, "Would you rather put butter on crunchy bread, or would you like to put syrup on fluffy awesomeness?". The pancakes were just as awesome as I'd hoped.
After that, I stopped in Ypsilanti to pick up my sister-in-law's grandmother and aunt. I drove us all to the house, where we dined on a wonderful Thanksgiving feast including, but not limited to candied yams cooked with peaches, deep-fried turkey, and cranberry Canada Dry ginger ale. It was delicious.
This is the first Thanksgiving that I've had that I haven't been with my immediate family; it was a pretty good experience, all in all. I continued my annual tradition of playing Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on my Sega Genesis; this was my fifth year. ;D (I got to Oil Ocean Zone, Act 2, before I got too tired to play anymore... I really wasn't in the mood to play The Metropolis. 0__o)
Well, that about wraps this post up. No music here - I am working on a sweet music-related post that combines showers, knives, dogs, and Sweden. It should be ready within the next few days. I gotta get to bed - I have to get up at 1 AM to get some sweet deals online at Kohl's, who is having Black Friday pricing on their website. Christmas shopping with huge savings from my chair? Yes, please! Oh. Then, I have to get up at 3 AM to be at work by 4 AM - I'm guessing that I'm working the Black Friday Crazy Shopper Moms Shift - 4 AM - 10 AM.
*shudder*
So... Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
